How does the Solar Rebate work?

Small scale Technology Certificate (STC’s) will be handed out when you will install an eligible solar system. Each of these STC holds a value. You can receive your rebate by exchanging it with the certified retailer to avail the discount.

You can also sell the STC in the open market but remember, the price it holds will be decided by the market and it will be fixed.

Now, determining how many STC’s you will get depends on numerous factors. 

One of these factors is – One MegaWatt per Hour (mWh) grants you one STC. 

You can calculate the estimate of how many STC you will get by determining the amount of mWh your solar system will generate until the year 2030.

Rebates according to Location 

Note that the rebate will be dynamic from area to area across the continent. You will receive the STC based on the area you live in. Taking an example of a small 6.6KW System in Sydney, A resident in New South Wales can avail upto $456 in rebate amount.

This is because different locations may receive different amounts of sunlight and that variates the amount of mWh generated by solar systems in those areas. Zone 1 areas are likely to receive approx. 10.7 mWh while Zone 4 areas may receive approx. 7.8 mWh. The rebate is hence bigger in Zone 4.
